Hi, I'm Yan Hao, you can call me Allie！
I am a freelance illustrator and picture book maker. I initially chose illustration as a medium because I wanted to convey what words alone cannot. I’ve always sought to create from instinct, whether it’s in storytelling or in visuals. As Thomas Carlyle once said,
“A book that comes from the heart will find its way to other hearts.” I firmly believe that there’s a child within each of us. Often, I hide the child within me in my works, hoping to resonate with the "child" within those who find them.
I completed my undergraduate studies in Visual Communication and graduated with a Master’s in Children's Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art. My background in graphic design has trained me to create not only for myself but also with an eye on the “product,” so when I’m illustrating or creating stories, I remind myself that my work should serve the text and communicate its core meaning. This mindset drives me to continuously explore the possibilities in drawing and storytelling, and I enjoy seeing my work grow freely with my ever-evolving life and ideas, rather than being confined to a type of “style.”
Currently, I live in China, but where I will live in the future is uncertain. If I weren’t an illustrator, my dream would be to be an adventurer exploring the world. Perhaps one day, you might see a person sketching in some distant corner of the world; when you approach her and say hello, she’ll tell you her name is Allie.
